Proven Advocacy for Severe Burns and Explosion Injuries
In 1994, a 52-inch gas pipeline owned by Texas Eastern Transmission Company exploded after it was compromised by a private contractor. The tragedy burned 24 apartment buildings in the Durham Woods apartment complex, killing one person and forcing 1,500 residents to flee. Representing more than 500 of the victims, Lombardi and Lombardi served as lead counsel in a class action that resulted in a $57 million settlement for burns and other injuries, emotional duress and property damage. This case led to creation of the New Jersey One Call hotline to request clearance from all utilities before digging.
From that litigation, we gained extensive knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding gas line transmission, inspections and third party contracts. Our trial lawyers and on-staff investigators have since handled many explosion cases:
- Furnace explosions in apartment buildings
- Landlords refinishing floors without turning off gas appliance pilot lights
- Exploding parts from work site machinery
- Chemical plant explosions
- Gasoline station fires
Comprehensive Compensation for Burn Injury
We are relentless in pursuing full compensation for second-degree and third-degree burns, skin grafts or injuries from flying debris. We also seek to recover for lost wages, damage to homes or personal property, relocation distress and the pain and suffering of permanent or catastrophic injuries.
To cover the massive medical expenses and economic loss, we often have to look to additional sources of insurance. Lombardi and Lombardi pursues coverage from utility companies, pipeline contractors, landlords, property owners and any third party sharing liability for the accident.
Contact us immediately to investigate your burn injury, fire or explosion claim. We offer a free initial consultation, including home or hospital visits. We take cases on a contingency basis — no attorney fees unless we recover compensation.
