Asbury Park NJ School Bus Company Faces Allegations of Unsafe Conditions

A school bus company operating out of Asbury Park NJ has been accused of endangering passengers by failing to fix unsafe conditions on buses.
The company in question is Seman Tov, which has offices on Bloomsbury Avenue in Asbury Park and provides transportation to students via school buses throughout Monmouth County and elsewhere in New Jersey. The company has come under fire in recent weeks after a driver reportedly quit his job in protest of unsafe conditions on the school buses he was required to drive. The driver specifically cited the safety risks posed to children sitting inside the buses.
According to the former employee, some Seman Tov school buses place passengers and drivers at risk of serious injury in an auto accident because they do not have any working headlights. Other buses allegedly have bad brakes that make it difficult for drivers to slow down or come to a complete stop when necessary. The reality is that buses with these kinds of conditions may be unsafe for use on NJ roadways.
Media reports have also begun to circulate that show pictures taken by a Bradley Beach NJ girl. The girl took the photographs while she was riding a bus operated by Seman Tov. The pictures reportedly show the bus driver texting on a cell phone while driving the vehicle. The girl’s mother later filed a complaint on her behalf against the allegedly negligent driver.
Another individual – the father of a boy in Shark River Hills NJ – provided photographs that reportedly show a Seman Tov bus being operated on a New Jersey roadway despite flashing lights indicating that the bus has problems with its brakes and transmission.
The Seman Tov company has issued a statement declaring that the company is committed to ensuring that “only safe buses” with “competent drivers” are put on the road. However, NJ state records reportedly show that less than one-quarter of all Seman Tov buses manage to pass initial safety inspections.
