New Jersey Reckless Driving Lawyers & Traffic Violation Attorneys
If you have received a ticket for reckless driving in New Jersey, you should put your case in the hands of an experienced traffic ticket defense lawyer. Unlike traffic violations such as speeding, reckless driving is a criminal offense. If you plead guilty, you could be sentenced to up to 60 days in jail. You would also have a permanent criminal record.
At Lombardi and Lombardi, P.A., our lawyers can help you mount an effective criminal defense against reckless driving charges. We offer a free initial consultation to discuss your case. We serve clients throughout Essex, Monmouth, Ocean County and beyond, as well as people from other states who were ticketed while driving in New Jersey.
New Jersey Point System and Reckless Driving
In New Jersey, reckless driving is driving a vehicle “heedlessly, in willful or wanton disregard for the rights or safety of others, in a manner so as to endanger, or be likely to endanger, a person or property.” Pleading guilty to reckless driving can cost you more than a fine and possible jail time. It can also result in vehicle surcharges, higher insurance rates, and driver’s license suspension.
A reckless driving conviction will result in five points on your driving record. If you accumulate between six and nine points in a three-year period, you will receive an advisory notice from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. If you accumulate 12 or more points in a three-year period, the MVC will issue a notice to suspend your driver’s license. Since police may issue multiple tickets for the same stop (for example, speeding and reckless driving), you could end up facing suspension of your driver’s license for a single traffic stop.
In many cases, our lawyers are often able to reduce reckless driving charges to careless driving, a two-point offense that would not result in a criminal record.
