Fisher-Price Recalls More Than 30,000 Cradle Swings

April 20, 2016 | By admin

Fisher-Price, a major U.S. manufacturer of toys for infants and children, recently issued a recall of infant cradle swings. The recall was necessitated by the discovery that the swings pose a risk of fall-related accidents for children who use the products.

The company, which is based out of East Aurora, New York, received reports of two consumers using the swings and noticing that a seat peg suddenly got dislodged from the seat. The problem is that when the seat peg is not fully engaged, the seat can unexpectedly fall to the ground and cause serious injury to the child.

The recall affects three different models of infant cradle swings: CHM84 Soothing Savanna Cradle ‘n Swing, CMR40 Sweet Surroundings Cradle ‘n Swing and CMR43 Sweet Surroundings Butterfly Friends Cradle ‘n Swing. All of the affected cradles, which were manufactured in Mexico, have two swinging motions, rocking side-to-side and swinging head-to-toe, as well as six swing speeds, ranging from low to high.

A total of approximately 34,000 swings, which have a retail sales price of $170, were recalled. Most of these swings were sold online through Amazon and other websites and at retail stores that include Target and Buy Buy Baby. The affected cradles were sold between November 2015 and March 2016, when the recall was first announced.

Anyone who has purchased one of the recalled cradle swings is asked to stop using the products and immediately contact Fisher-Price so that the user can get new assembly instructions.

Importantly, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission did not order the recall. At this time, the recall has been issued voluntarily by Fisher-Price. It is likely that the company made the decision to issue the recall in order to avoid potential product liability lawsuits from consumers whose children could sustain injuries due to use of the defective products.
