Is Buzzed Driving, Drunk Driving?

December 22, 2015 | By admin

If you feel like you are “buzzed,” it means you are aware that your own judgment is off. By all accounts, buzzed driving is most certainly drunk driving. If you feel as though you’ve had too much to drink, you probably have. Don’t get behind the wheel of a car.

According to a certified instructor from the National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course 4, “Buzzed” is just another way of saying `I’m not as drunk as I think I am.’ In other words, if one has been drinking enough to `feel the buzz’ then one is already drunk.”

Of course, there is a difference between complete and utter intoxication (falling down drunk) and slightly affected by alcohol. The problem is that, especially at holiday time, people are partying and having a good time and don’t want the celebration to end. They may ignore those “buzzed” feelings and keep drinking until they really are not capable of knowing how drunk they really are. Next thing you know, the evening is over and party-goers stumble to their cars to get home.

It’s well known that any amount of alcohol that impairs judgment and coordination can be deadly behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. The same instructor wrote, “Someone killed by a buzzed driver is just as dead as one killed by a drunk driver.”

Don’t be a statistic this holiday season. If you are at a party and see someone who is partying a little too hard, step up and take away their keys. And, if you are unfortunate enough to be in an accident with someone who negligently decided to take everyone’s lives in their hands when they decided to drink and drive, you may be able to take legal action to hold the drunk driver responsible for injuries sustained by you or someone you love.
