Mirena IUD at the Center of Another NJ Lawsuit
July 20, 2015 | By admin
A California woman filed suit in a New Jersey Court claiming that the popular Mirena IUD caused her serious damage and pain. Chelsea Dawn McClune filed the suit in early June and her case is the latest of thousands connected with the device. Most of the suits allege that the IUD carries serious risks of organ perforation and other complications about which doctors and patients have been insufficiently warned. McClune required emergency surgery in 2013 to have the device removed and claims to have suffered permanent physical injury, pain and suffering as a result of the ordeal.
Although OB-GYNs claim that IUDs are a safe, effective form of contraceptive, hundreds of women each year are hurt and injured by these devices. In the case of the Mirena IUD, “spontaneous migration” is not listed as a side effect, but this is one of the most common complaints about the device. Millions of women use the devices with the expectation that they will be safe and free from risk. The risk that they should expect should be clearly written on the label so they’re empowered to make their own decisions with as much information as possible.
