Whole Foods Tops Food Safety Recall List for 2014

June 17, 2015 | By admin

It may surprise you to know this, but in the span of a year there have been close to 740 recalls of food for safety reasons, according to the FDA’s database. The reasons for these recalls have ranged from undeclared ingredients and unidentified sources of contamination to fungus and other health concerns. This news comes on the heels of the recent listeria outbreak that was traced back to Jamba Juice’s at-home smoothie kits.

Another company that shockingly appeared on the safety recall list was organic and health-oriented grocery giant Whole Foods. According to data from the company’s website, Whole Foods has recalled 26 store-brand products since the beginning of last year. This doesn’t include other brand-name products that have come to be staples on grocery store’s shelves. It’s worth pointing out, however, that the chain’s mistakes only represent about three percent of all recalls nationwide. While they have a comfortable lead, they’re in the company of other prominent grocery retailers on the top-five list, including fellow grocery chain Hospira with 21 recalls, Baxter with ten recalls, Giant Eagle with nine recalls and Wegmans with eight recalls.

If you’ve been the victim of food poisoning from a product that never should have made it to market, you probably need to know about the hundreds of other recalls that took place this year—one was enough for you. What you need to do, however, is call an attorney who can help you hold the vendor and the manufacturer accountable for their negligence. An experienced attorney can help you verify that you were made ill by a contaminated food and get you the compensation you deserve. These recalls can cause more than a bad stomachache and an uncomfortable afternoon. If you’ve been severely injured or even hospitalized because of a contaminated food product, you deserve justice.
