Brick Township Gynecologist Accused of Harassing Female Patient

A gynecologist from Brick Township NJ was recently accused of sexually harassing one of his patients during an office visit.
The suspect is a 53-year-old Toms River man who works at Brick Women’s Physicians, Obstetrics and Gynecology, which is located on Burnt Tavern Road in Brick, New Jersey. He reportedly saw the victim, a female patient, at the medical office and gave her an examination. At the conclusion of the medical examination, the suspect allegedly began to inappropriately touch the victim.
Detectives with the Brick Township Police Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit conducted a joint investigation into the allegations and eventually determined that there was merit to the sexual harassment allegations. The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged with harassment in connection with offensive touching. At this time, it is unclear why Ocean County prosecutors did not elect to charge the suspect with a more serious sex crime like criminal sexual contact or sexual assault.
If the suspect is convicted on the charges of harassment, he would be subject to significant penalties that could include a sentence of up to 18 months in the Ocean County Jail. Harassment is considered a disorderly persons offense, not a felony-level offense. As such, the suspect’s case will be heard in the Brick Township Municipal Court; if the suspect had been charged with a felony, his case would have been heard in Ocean County Superior Court.
After the suspect was placed under arrest and processed, he secured his release from police custody on his own recognizance. He will have to make an appearance in Brick Municipal Court at a later date to address the criminal charges against him.
While the charges against the suspect remain pending, he could be subject to discipline from the NJ State Board of Medical Examiners. Depending on determinations by the state medical board, the suspect’s New Jersey medical license could potentially be suspended or even revoked.
