When Construction Sites Cause Auto Accidents

Construction sites are a common location for car accidents, particularly when distracted or inattentive drivers are not taking sufficient care to avoid colliding with their fellow motorists. However, the construction site itself can also cause car accidents, even when no other traffic is present.
Here are a few situations in which conditions on a construction site may cause an accident. When this occurs, you may be able to hold the construction company liable for any injuries you suffer as a result of their negligence.
Inadequate Signs or Markings
Construction sites must be clearly marked to alert oncoming drivers, let them know how to control their speed, and to tell them where to go in order to avoid colliding with construction equipment, workers, and other objects on the site. If there aren't adequate signs, barriers, or road markings, drivers may unwittingly become injured. Similarly, if signs and markings aren't visible at night, serious injuries can result.
Inadequate Space
Even when barriers and signs make it clear where drivers should go in order to navigate the construction site, construction crews must leave adequate space for vehicles to travel and to turn if needed. If the provided roadway or turning space is too narrow, vehicles may collide with concrete barriers, construction barrels, road signs, or even equipment or workers who are on the site.
Negligent Work
Negligent use of construction equipment and carelessness by workers in and around the path traffic must travel can also result in serious injuries, not only to construction workers but also to drivers who are passing through the construction site.
If you've been injured in a car accident while passing through a construction site, determining what combination of factors caused the crash can be difficult. Work with an experienced New Jersey car accident lawyer who can focus on investigating your claim and pursuing the compensation you deserve while you focus on healing from your injuries.
