Old Bridge Woman Wins $5M Medical Malpractice Settlement From Rutgers RWJ Medical School
$5 Million Settlement Awarded to Medical Malpractice Victim
In 2015, a woman who received back surgery at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital was left permanently injured. She pursued a medical malpractice claim in court, and now she's finally received a court order for her rightful judgment. She's been awarded a $5 million settlement.
Resident of NJ Receives $5 Million Settlement After Medical Malpractice Incident
The injured victim, 42-year-old Jaime Doglio, received the surgery in 2015. She reported approaching staff at the hospital about consistent back pain and bilateral numbness. Ultimately, she was recommended for a laminectomy, which is spinal decompression surgery.
After undergoing the procedure, Doglio reports she awoke paralyzed from her mid-back down to her toes. After researching what happened, she learned the devastating truth that her doctor had failed to remove some Gelfoam dressing before closing her surgical incisions. In addition, her providers failed to install drains to help drain bodily fluids and blood after the operation. Upon waking up numb, she was immediately rushed back to the operating table where drains were placed. Despite the doctor's efforts, the damage had already been done.
After researching her options, the victim hired a legal attorney from Lombardi and Lombardi, P.A. She and her lawyers learned that her doctor was an employee of the state at the time of her operation. Ultimately, that means the state was responsible for the error.
According to the victim and her lawyers, Doglio's status as both a wife and mother were greatly impacted by her disability. She will likely never fully physically recover, but she has regained some feeling.
