Turkey Hill Recalls Ice Cream after Labeling Issue Exposes Consumers to Health Problems

Turkey Hill Dairy, a Pennsylvania-based company that produces and distributes ice cream throughout the country, recently issued a major product recall due to a labeling mistake.
Turkey Hill sells ice cream in New Jersey stores, so NJ consumers should pay attention to the recall notice.
During the manufacturing process, a labeling issue meant that Dutch Chocolate Premium Ice Cream tubs were being topped off with a Rocky Road Premium Ice Cream lid. In addition to resulting in many unsatisfied customers, the mislabeling had the potential to cause serious health problems for consumers. That’s because the Dutch Chocolate ice cream and the Rocky Road ice cream have different ingredients and could expose customers with allergies or other types of food sensitivities to health complications. For instance, the Turkey Hill Rocky Road ice cream contains eggs and almonds not listed among the ingredients for the Dutch Chocolate ice cream – anyone with allergies to eggs or almonds would be at risk of suffering an allergic reaction and might not realize it until after eating the ice cream.
The Turkey Hill recall affects Dutch Chocolate Premium Ice Cream tubs. Consumers should check the bottom of the package and see if the ice cream has a sell-by date of May 23, 2017. Anyone who has purchased one of the recalled food products can contact Turkey Hill Dairy to arrange for a replacement or the issuance of a full refund.
At this time, there have not been any reports of anyone sustaining an illness or suffering an allergic reaction as a result of consuming the recalled Turkey Hill ice cream.
